Brand New Opteka HD² 58mm R72 720nm Infrared X-Ray "See Through" Multi-Coated IR Filter
This filter can help you to see perfectly through sunglasses and dark, tinted car windows.
IR filters used in conjunction with an IR sensitive camera can sometimes see things completely invisible to the human eye.
Other applications where the IR filter can be used include: environmental studies, natural resource studies, monitoring geographical and geological changes, investigating coastal erosion and identifying marsh land vegetation, archaeological exploration, surface mining and mined land disturbances, hydrological studies and channel mapping, monitoring oil spills, irrigation studies, medicine, mineralogy, philately, art history, entomology, etc.
What are you waiting for? This filter will give you hours of photographic fun!

Editorial Reviews:

Opteka specializes in manufacturing special optical devices for the past several years, would like to take this opportunity to introduce a newly developed product called the "HD² Infrared X-Ray Effect See-Through Multi-Coated Filter". This filter makes it possible for you to see images that are normally invisible to the human eye. It sounds like science-fiction but it isn't; this fantastic new product has been developed using the most highly advanced optical technologies available. This filter will filter out 99% of light seen by the naked eye only allowing infrared light through so that technically the naked eye can see 100% black when the filter is in place. Multi-coating prevents light reflection, ghost light...etc, making images clearer and sharper. On your digital camcorder, turn the "Nightshot" function on - the naked eye cannot pick up the high contrast black, so with the infrared filter and Nightshot combination, for example, it will help you see in the images provided, that we 'accidentally' spilt some permanent ink on this document and the text is now impossible to read. However, when we attached the filter to our Sony 'TR250PK' camcorder, the writing is clearly legible through the ink - thus the x-ray effect! You will be amazed with the power if you take the time to experiment and experience its capabilities for yourself. If you already have a digital camcorder with the Nightshot feature and are interested in experimenting with the X-Ray effect, this is by far the least expensive method, giving you the results you are looking for. Just screw on the filter, switch on the 'Night' feature, and you are ready to go!

I used this product for a few weeks before dropping it into the Grand Canyon. Better to drop a filter then my camera=0)
I have a Canon Rebel XTI and used shutter speeds from 10 sec. up to 3 min.
I got some hot spots with my 28-90mm, but none with my 80-300mm.
I will end up ordering another one. I really enjoyed playing with it and thought the results were great.

Opteka HD² 58mm R72 720nm Infrared X-Ray IR Filter is useless because it does not allow any light, not even direct sun light, to filter through it. I have assumed that I received a faulty lens and will attempt to exchange it.

Make sure you have a camera that is capable of working with this lens. After initially thinking it would, my camera did not, and I wasted my money.

I ordered this IR filter for my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. It works great when the camera is placed on a tripod with an average exposure time of 5 seconds (on a typical sunny day). Overall, the filter, combined with a custom white-balance setting, produce the results I had hoped for.

well i recently became interested in infrared photography so i decided to purchase a filter for it, after looking around a while i found that the hoya r72 filter was difficult to get in 58 milimeters so i decided to try the opteka.
Anyways I sent them the money and they promptly sent my the filter. I put it on the Galileo II adapter which my camera needs to use filters, and flipped the night shot switch 95% down. This moves the hot mirror out of the way. Right away I was taking excellent pictures in infrared.

I highly recommend this filter, however if you have a camera that is unconverted for infrared photography, or you dont have a camera like mine, the Sony DSC-H9, which features a nightshot switch, which allows you to move the hot mirror out of the way allowing you to take both color and excellent infrared photos, you may be disapointed as your pictures will be blurry, and you will not be able to do nearly as many things. such as take pictures with any amount of motion. Also if you plan on using this for a dslr, you will need to use a longer shutter speed as the hot mirror is much more efficent, for good reason.
