Taking Office Depot up on their recent "Trade-In and Trade-Up" promotion, I traded in my almost 2 year old 8 mp Nikon L18. The former camera had the distinction of taking good photographs but not ever being recognized by my computer using the input cord; I would have to transfer pics by swapping the memory card in another brand of camera I owned (I also own a Nikon D40 SLR and this is not a problem so I don't believe that this is a problem unique to the Nikon brand).
Anyways, in regards to the S570, this is a very nicely packaged and very small (and light) sophisticated point-and-shoot digital camera. Like many of the new slim generation of digitals, this camera requires you to charge up it's lithium battery to get the camera to operate. Charging time is excessively long taking several hours.
Strangely, the LCD viewing area is 2.7" which might be the new standard but is smaller than the 3" area of the L series Nikon has discontinued.
Picture quality is not a visible improvement over either of my 8 mp cameras and certainly not as good as the 6 mp (but larger sensor area) D40. Facial recognition is hit-or-miss, that is, sometimes it works and others not at all.
Most disappointing, however is the fact that this camera was only able to transfer photographs the very first time it was attached (via cord) to my computer. Subsequent attempts did not succeed and I was forced to transfer the memory card to another camera (just like the previous Nikon L18!). Apparently, the connection at the camera has been a problem for other owners of this model.
I am no longer impressed with the Nikon line of small pocket digital cameras and will most likely exchange the 5570 for a Sony, Kodak or Canon model.

I bought this because I have another nikon that I love! I loved the size and convenience. It takes really nice and clear pictures but still lacked on some areas. I hate the zoom and the digital zoom is terrible! After I got it, I read a few reviews that said they hated the camera because of the lens problems and I no more read that and used my camera for the second time and got a lens error. Not once but twice in the second time I used the camera. Sadly I wouldn't recconmend this to anyone. Nice price for a 12 megapixel but I think they cut corners on the rest of the quality.

The camera is conveniently small and portable. It takes great pictures. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a simple point and shoot camera.

I am very pleased with this camera so far. It seems to have the 2 qualities that make Nikon different than other cameras.

1. It seems to have a fairly good quality glass lens. (keep in mind this is only a $129 camera)

2. It has a very good logical system for taking pictures that is very easy to learn and has all its features arranged very well. Nikon has always been superior in its design of features for ease of use and only putting in logical features for taking the best pictures. Many other cameras over the years would put in features as selling points but many had little to do with taking good pictures. When I got this camera it took me about 20 minutes to find every feature without looking at any of the documents that came with it. Better yet, everything was arranged logically and easy to find. This is what sold me on Nikon 30 years ago when I bought my first Nikon SLR. Mind you, this is an inexpensive pocket camera but it has more features than I expected.

For those that give it a low rating for picture quality I suggest that they spend some time reading the user manual. Practice using the 17 preset scenes by pressing the green scene button. Also, small pocket cameras are more sensitive to steady in low light or zoomed. If you are in low light or zoomed in you might want to use a mono-pod or rest against something firm. Better yet, change the setting. If your camera was defective when you got it or soon after this is not the place to take out your frustration. Send it back and get a working one before you write your review, it's guaranteed. Reviews are for working items.

I give it high marks for a pocket camera in its price range. I especially like the wide angle and the zooming range. 28MM-140MM gives you a lot of range.

Light weight, easy to carry camera. Takes great pictures in just about any light.
