The instructions are not very good, but once I got this working it was great! (On a Nikon DX40, choose "remote" in "shooting mode" by clicking the zoom magnifying glass button while in camera mode.) I just got it so I am not certain about the battery life, but it is simple, effective and exactly what I wanted. Great price & fast shipping, too.

I'm new to photography. So, take this for what it's worth - this is a cool addition to one's ability to take photos. This is especially crucial when you notice that you're never in the shot. I'm looking forward to seeing what this remote can do. That's why I've attempted to avoid putting a value on the range and battery life - I simply don't know... yet.

Simple and easy to use remote. Good product for $10. Just change the settings on the camera to "remote" and push the button. The remote works perfectly for the Nikon D40. The remote is small, which is good. But that also means it'll likely be lost. So better to not spend so much on it. The range I tested was around 10 feet. The camera can detect the remote with a range of approximately 20-160 degrees (with remote pointing in the camera's direction). So as long as you are not standing behind the camera, it'll work. Just point and shoot.

This little remote is great! I was able to use it just minutes out of the box. (Granted, I did have to read my camera's manual on how to set the camera to use a remote. I have been able to use it with no delay and on bulb setting of the camera. Can't wait to use it some more!

First of all let me clear one thing; Nikon D5000 (one I have) has IR sensor on front side of the camera body. I believe that is the case with all other Nikon cameras. Thus if you buy the remote it will only work if you are facing front of the camera. It is not remote fault or camera's as matter that remote is not working if you are behind the camera. It is the way how IR works.
With this in mind, I have to say this remote is awesome. I have created about 700 photos in last 3 weeks using the remote, and it worked every single time. Distance was from a foot to about 20 yards. Weather conditions where from 105F hot days, studio photography, to 55F moist/cloudy days on Pacific coast. I am very surprised how good this little gadget works. Would I buy it again. Yes for sure. However, I have to says, since this operates on CR2025 battery I have no illusion that this will be able to make another 700 photos with this batter, thus I have purchased extra (and would recomand this to you too).
Finally for those people that want remote that would work regardless where the location of remote is vs camera position, look at some of the remote flash triggers that have option to be used as remote camera triggers. I have Youngnuo RF-602RX that I use as remote flash triger for of camera flash. This will let you controle the camera even if you are behind it (or in another room if you want) but it will aslo cost you more. However if you are looking for simple, cheap IR remote triger that will utilize cameras IR sensor (positioned at the front of the camera's body) for sake of taking self portraits, long exposure, landscape photography then look no father. This one does the job.
